General - Quoting from MySpace

This is a trend I've noticed in mainstream reporting lately. When they can't get an actual quote from somebody, they start using their MySpace or Facebook profile as gospel.

See this quote below from CNN's story about the hooker Elliot Spitzer hooked up with. The story goes on to quoter her MySpace page talking about a broken home, a music career and how good she feels about herself now.

These things may all be true, but is it wise to quote from the web like this?

I mean, my MySpace page says that I am a Buddhist.

I am not a Buddhist.

"I just don't want to be thought of as a monster," Dupre told the newspaper. She revealed little else in the interview, but her MySpace page offered some insight into her background.
